Home made cereal bars / pre-workout bars :)

I have invented my own cereal bar recipe :)...  so before I begin I thought I'd give you the low down on why it may be more beneficial to make your own!

Cereals and cereal bars are probably one of the biggest "healthy food" scams on the market.

Clever marketing and advertising has got a lot of people convinced that cereal and cereal bars are healthy... but they are not. In fact, if you eat a bowl of cereal in the morning, you may as well be eating a slice of chocolate cake!! (AAhh!! I was also shocked when I discovered this, but if you look at the labels it makes sense :')).

So, my advice for you is to stay away from cereals and stick to natural Oats for breakfast :)

There are some cereals which are quite obviously unhealthy, such as Coco Pops and Honey Nut Cornflakes, but it's cereals such as Granola and Cheerios that you need to watch out for. They may seem innocent, but they're packing just as much sugar as the rest!

Aside from this, sugar and fat levels in cereals are sky high. UK research done in 2012 showed that Quaker Oat So Simple, Dorset Simply Delicious Muesli, and Alpen Original Muesli contained noticeably high fat levels - all of which seem to be marketed as perfectly healthy products.

The easiest way to avoid the bad processed sugars is to make your own cereal bars :) - so I have come up with my very own recipe for you guys! :) - Simple, delicious, high energy, and just 10 minutes to cook!

Ingredients

1 cup Oats
1 cup Mixed dried fruit
1 cup 100% Peanut butter
1 Banana
1/2 cup honey
1 tsp Butter
1 tsp Vanilla extract

Instructions

Pre-heat your oven to 200 Degrees C.

Mix ALL of the ingredients thoroughly in a large bowl until they form a compact dough mix.

Put some grease proof paper onto a baking tray and dollop your mixture on, spreading it out to the edges.

Pop the mixture into the oven for around 10 - 15 minutes (keep an eye on it... mine cooked nicely in just 10!)

And there you have it :).

Chop up your final product into bars and store in your cupboard... and you've got 1 as a snack for each day of the week!

The final product isn't particularly low in calories, but offers an unprocessed alternative to shop bought cereal bars.. and contains GOOD fats which your body needs to function :).

They also make a GREAT natural pre-workout energy bar.

  1. Really I was in great search of “Cereal bar recipe” using some homemade substances. That is really the right method of making it as per my grandmother. Can we buy supplements as made of such like natural recipes, in market too?
