Following your dreams...

When I was 6 all I wanted to be when I grew up was a police dog. I would run around my front room imagining I was rescuing countless pieces of furniture from serious crimes against the law. It sounds ridiculous, but I had a huge imagination as a kid.

Now I am 21, and I seriously want to be a personal trainer… but at the moment it feels almost as ridiculous as wanting to be a police dog.

(Just to clarify, I don’t now run around my front room whipping pillows into good shape and force feeding the sofa a fruit salad).

I read an interesting blog recently by Courtney Prather called “How I quit my job to follow my passion”. Courtney is a bikini competitor, personal trainer, fitness model and the leader of her own fitness empire and is a huge inspiration of mine.

Her blog was about how she juggled her fit life around her business life, and how she eventually left her job as a business woman and set out to follow her dreams to become a personal trainer… and never looked back!

But there was one line from her blog which really stuck with me;

“DO NOT QUIT YOUR JOB YET!”

I believe that Courtney said “don’t quit yet” because she realised the value of having that secure income, and she had worked for years to climb up a very corporate ladder, and it didn’t seem practical to just drop it all to follow a career in fitness. Maybe she is right, and inspiring and motivating others should be something I do outside of work ….. for now.

Everybody has a dream that they wish to pursue, and everybody reaches that point in their life where they want to just PURSUE IT ALREADY! Even if it is not the most realistic or appropriate thing to do at the time.

I think I am searching for reassurance from somebody who has experience in this sector and can advise me as to whether I should invest in doing a PT course and leave my desk job behind. If there happen to be any PT’s from the UK reading this then your advice is very welcome!
